New and archaic audiovisual technologies on a collision-course with chamber music. Two works from Nicole Lizée (Montréal) juggle high and low: stop-motion ensemble and video intertwine in a premiere featuring live Etchasketch; mind and muscle-memory are tested in a duo for percussion and Simon™. Giorgio Magnanensi’s maverick approach to electronics combines short-circuited talking toys with amplified ensemble “glitches”. Nick Brooke mixes antique magic lantern slides and ensemble, adding a fresh twist to the art of sampling. Young British composer Emily Hall blends music and a haunting black & white video in Night Dancing.
Continuum’s ensemble, with guest artists Gregory Oh (pianist/conductor), Wallace Halladay (saxophonist) and Lauren Phillips (mezzo-soprano).
